Shifting the discussion of bicycle infrastructure with equity-oriented analysis.

People want to bike, they just don’t feel safe doing it in America. The demand for biking is latent in our cities since high-demand travel routes - our main streets and downtown avenues - lack safe bicycle infrastructure for people ages 8 to 80. Yet city funding isn't limitless. To prioritize investments in biking for communities with affordable mobility needs is key to Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition's mission.

Working with the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition team I am building a route evaluation data tool - grounded in geospatial analytics - that integrates equity priorities, community destinations, and all ages and abilities safety needs.

The data tool I’m developing will assist SVBC's advocacy for building more bicycling infrastructure in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. Using global design standards that ensure the right level of protection from traffic for people biking, the tool will advance local discussions for building more protected bike lanes and trails in the region.
